The Harlem School of the Arts will soon have someone new at the helm. On Saturday, Eric G. Pryor will become the organization’s new president, the board announced Thursday.

“Teaching children about the arts is critical,” Mr. Pryor said in a telephone interview, adding that the school “has the opportunity to play an important role and be a tremendous asset to the city.”

Since 2012 he has served as executive director of the Center for Arts Education, a nonprofit group that promotes art education through school and community programs, professional development, parent engagement and advocacy. Mr. Pryor succeeds Yvette L. Campbell, who stepped down in June when she moved to the United Arab Emirates with her family.
